Salaams all,
It is really inspiring and everwhelming to see some of us already warming up to the spirit of Rammadan. We still have got about 3 weeks before Rammadan which will give us an amble time to consider our favourite charity. Aw-Sabri Foundation is, a charity wing of HIAGI. It has been actively involved in a variety of charitable deeds since 2005. The foundation has been establised by the late Ezer Ahmed Omar Yosuf. It is legally registered as a charitable organisation in Australia. This makes all contributions to the foundation fully tax deductable. We will happily provide stamped reciepts if requested for any purposes. Further details of what we have achieved so far please visit HIAGI website within the next few of days to see what we stand for what we have achieved so far. We are constructing the history of the foundation as we speak. As briefly described by brother Salahadin Khairo, So far the foundation is not limited to but, mainly provides welfare to the poorest of poor elders, the widows or orphans whose one or both of their parents had deceased and are extremely unable to suport themselves. There are commited people on the ground who has an insight knowledge of identifying such poeple. They recruite members according to their level of neediness. Regrettably we only recruite according to our budget, but the opportunities are vast to those intending to invest in the hereafter. Some of other charitable deeds we undertook also include; Zakatul Fitri & Maal distribution, Transferred underpriviledged Harari students from Catholic Schools by covering all their fees to attend Abadir and Aw-abdal Islamic shools. The foundation also acted firmly in 2005 when it was brought to its attention and fully restored and 'immamed' a Mosque that was abondoned for the homeless and drunkens for over two decades (25yrs). We are in a process of carefully documenting and posting on the web our activities for inspirational as well as accountabily reasons. Meanwhile, until we put all our details on the web, if anyone would like further information about Aw-Sabri or how to donate, we are contactable on ; Khalid Abdosh: 61-402 768 694(M) Australia Khalid Omar: 61-411 056 380(M) Australia Kamil Warfa: 251-256-669091( W) Harar 251-9157 42163(M) Nabil Ishak: 251-9117 89660(M) Harar Isha'alah, we will provide further details and more contactable persons soon. IMMIGRANT CENTERCommunity Offers Newcomers Advice And a VoiceWashington Post Staff WriterThursday, July 27, 2006; Page B03 When Wendell Chesson came to the District from Liberia
25 years ago, he did not know where to find housing, where to learn English
or how to locate health care. Now, he said, new African immigrants won't
have to face the same challenges.
In order to be heard, we have to build an institution, " said Abdul Kamus,
an Ethiopian immigrant who devised the plan for the African Resource Center
and will serve as its executive director. "Starting today, the community
is in charge of helping each other through this center."
Chesson and dozens of other African-born District residents celebrated the opening of the African Resource Center yesterday at a converted house on Vermont Avenue near U Street NW. The center is part of a growing effort by African immigrants to provide a voice for their community. About 16 percent of new immigrants in the region are from Africa, according to a 2001 Brookings Institution study, but community leaders said African-born people have less of a cohesive identity than do Latino or Asian immigrants. The D.C. Council voted in March to create an Office of African Affairs, many years after similar offices were founded to serve the Latino and Asian/Pacific Islander communities. "We have many cultural differences, but when it comes to achieving benefits, we have to do it for all Africans," Chesson said. "There might be a few Ethiopians here and a few Nigerians there, but if we put all the countries together, we are a big group." The African Resource Center will teach people about their rights and provide information about education, health care, immigration procedures, language access programs and other services, Kamus said. The staff will work with the Office of African Affairs to bring relevant issues to the attention of elected officials. "We have always thought immigration was about Latinos," said Juan Carlos Ruíz, general coordinator of the National Capital Immigration Coalition. "We've been illuminated and educated, and we pledge our full support for the development of this organization." One initial focus of the African Resource Center will be trying to develop solutions for the problems created by the law, passed in 2001 but enforced only recently, that does not allow taxi drivers to register the vehicles they own in the District unless they live in the city. Most of the city's drivers live outside the city, and Kamus said a majority are African immigrants. D.C. Taxicab Commission Chairman Causton Toney attended yesterday's celebration and promised to work with community leaders to find solutions. "The invitation for me to come here was a clear indication of the desire
to bridge the gap between the government and the community," Toney said.
"Now we can work together."

The attendees of this meeting were; His Excellency Murad Abdulhadi (Harari Regional State President)
Gursum community leader Mr. Meftuh Shash on his speech; Further to a brief introduction to the striving Gursum Community Diaspora and its objectives, Mr. Meftuh Shash expressed that The Fugnanbira Community Group Association feels morally responsible and politically correct to elevate the awareness of Government officials, Technocrats, International NGOs and the general public on the existing status of hydrological imbalance that accounted for the demise and misery of many innocent souls in Eastern Ethiopia and particularly Eastern Hararge Region (Gursum). Mr. Meftuh Shash was referring to the Socio-economic challenges and
restoration for sustainable watershed management in Gursum, Eastern Hararge
Region. http://www.wscsd.org/ejournal/article.php3?id_article=232 a study
report by Mr. Shawel Bertu, who is also a member of the Community Group
and currently pursuing for PhD in `International Environmental Economics`
at Tokyo University in Japan.
Mr. Meftuh Shash stated that, as can be discerned from Mr. Bertus analysis, deforestation is rampant and unchallenged, alternative use of energy (biomass) is far from the horizon, Peoples awareness with respect to Natural Conservation Studies is so insignificant, biophysical implication of lack of educating and other significant components were not dealt with rationally and henceforth a collapse of an entire socio-economic studies or irreparable National Disaster is may be eminent. Mr. Meftuh Shash also urged the government both on the Federal, Regional and at local levels to study and look in to strategically crafted report by Mr. Shawel Bertu and similar other documents released by FAO, World Bank, UNDP.. etc. and workout the means and ways of alleviating the water shortage in the region since access to clean water is not a privilege, it is a necessity. The Fugnanbira Group also asked the Harar Region leaders about an investment in the region and the cooperation of local authorities to facilitate the required elements for those who would like to return and succeed in venture back home. The Harari Regional State President, His Excellency Murad Abdulhadi on his part: The water supply and environmental problems in our region has been always a serious concern and a primary issue for our entire region. Our government has been working on this for quite sometime. We are working with all regions administrations at all level together collectively to alleviate such problems. He also expressed that he is impressed with Gursum Community Diaspora taking such initiatives and preparing such remarkable development project and presenting it to the government. His Excellency Murad also encouraged the community leaders to continue their effort in doing so to help the country and also consider investing in ventures in the region. The Hararge Region Vice President, Honorable Ragasa Kefale on his part: Currently we have problems of water supply in Harar Region and a
major project is underway to supply water 70 km away from the region which
is approximately 50% completed. The water supply from this resource is
projected for 20 years, however, we believe without water conservation
and watershed management this may not be sustainable as projected. Henceforth,
now we have the resources and will consider studying the report and implementing
this project for sustainable development. Mr. Ragasa Kefale also mentioned
his tour of watershed management practice in Canada and fascinated by their
development. Mr. Ragas Kefale also highly commended the organizations
effort in preparing such a remarkable development report and confirmed
that he will personally deliver and address this important issue to his
local officials to seriously study the report and improve Gursum environment.
The Ethiopian Embassy in Canada, Counselor Abdurahim Mohammed Ali on his part: He expressed his regrets of the Ethiopian Ambassadors absence due to unexpected illness and confirmed that the report is vital for development and will be delegated to the appropriate administrations to study the project. Counselor Abdurahim Mohammed also mentioned the double digit growth in farming sector in Ethiopia and such watershed management is vital and will further assist enhancing such development. Further more Mr. Abdurahim expressed that the Fugnanbira Community Group Association Diasporas activity and its objectives in assisting its community and our countrys development is commendable and supported by our federal government policy as well. Mr. Abdurahim Ali also recalled the organizations relation with the Ethiopian Embassy and appreciated the Fugnanbira Community Diasporas concern and action of condemnation last year November 2005, when anti peace elements violently disrupted Ethiopia in attempt to dismantling the constitution and overthrow the government. Mr. Abdurahim Ali also encouraged the community leaders to continue their tireless effort to succeed their objectives and be seen as a model organization in Diaspora. At the end of the meeting Gursum community leader Meftuh Shash appreciated
